Color blocking has been part of the fashion and home decor industries for ages, and it’s on trend again this year. The idea is simple: It’s about showing off big blocks of your favorite colors so that they can’t be missed. There’s nothing subtle about it; go for the bold!

The more surprising the color combo, the better. (Talk to a designer if you’re not sure about your color choices.) Stick with two or three colors to maximize the impact of each one.

Some simple ways to try color blocking in your home are upholstering a headboard in a bright color and contrasting it with different colored pillows, or upholstering dining room chairs in two to three different colors.
